How much does a website cost?
Putting a price on web design/development services is hard. Companies like Clever aren't offering physical goods that cost us $X to make which we then sell at $Y with markup. So while we know what our services should go for we need to adjust our pricing based on each project's requirements and make sure you understand why your project will cost what it does. This is the reason most web design and development companies are hesitant to list prices on their website. The truth is, we are too but in the interest of "keeping it real" and serving real people, we hope this page answers any questions you might have and gives you a rough esitmate of your project's value.
The average cost of a website
A recent industry-wide study found the average cost of a website is between $6,000 and $12,000. Clever's usual range is somewhat below that average. Of course, if you're on a tight budget you could always hire the guy down the street or your nephew who's "good with computers" but to tell you the truth, that usually doesn't work out. A good portion of our clients come to us after trying that route.

Frequently Asked Pricing Questions
What is your hourly rate?
We don't normally charge an hourly rate. Clever charges by the project. If you have a smaller project or prefer hourly pricing our rate is $88/hr.
How do I pay? Is it all at once?
Depending on the size of the project we split the payments up into halves, thirds, and quarters. We accept cash, check, and all of the credit cards. All of them.
How long does it take to build?
Most of the sites we work on can be finished in 4 to 8 weeks depending on their complexity. We always pad our estimates to be safe and we haven't missed a deadline yet.
Where can I get support when it's finished?
Your site will need to be updated periodically once its finished. You'll be able to edit every aspect of your website yourself but you might not want to deal with that or the updates updates or any unexpected hiccups should they happen. If that's the case you can hire us at our hourly rate of $88/hr or buy a monthly block of hours for much cheaper which we'll add to the cost of your project.
Are there any ongoing fees?
No. There are fees but they're not hidden. Those fees include domain registration, web hosting, the cost of any stock photography you specifically ask for, and that's about it. If there are any fees specific to your project we'll let you know about them up front before any work begins.
Nondisclosure and Copyright
We have a lot of experience with companies who have a very strict information security policies and handle sensitive consumer information. We're happy to sign any NDAs (within reason and after our lawyer reviews it) and take the security and privacy of any information you give us seriously.
As for copyright, it belongs to you. All of it. Well, most of it. In general, when you make your final payment to us copyright is automatically assigned to you. The only exception to this rule would be any software that we license to you but don't sell to you. Those situations are quite rare and you'll know if it applies to you.
